"Sitting still is overrated. It makes sense for the Opera or for meditating, but in most classrooms and child care centers, it's given far more honor than it deserves. Children need to move." - Tom Hunter, National Association for the Education of Young Children.
I work in an inclusive public school with 20 four-year-old kindergarteners.
My students are active and crave sensory activities. I have found that the children really thrive on the rocking motion of my rocking chair because it helps them focus and move while they are learning. A lot of my kiddos also need the oral sensory input throughout the day.
My school provides a nurturing place for children to feel safe and learn in the best possible way for each individual student.
My Project
My students will use the rocking chairs throughout the entire day to help them fulfill sensory needs while still attending to whole group, small group, or independent work. The chewelry pencil toppers will also be used throughout the day with children who are in need of a little more oral sensory input.
These items will help all students to be success file learners while getting their sensory needs met.
Some children are in need of different sensory input to process different tasks throughout the day, which this project will help out.
