Learning When: We Need Visual Timers!

My students need visual timers to help them learn the concepts of time.

My Students

Can you imagine how your day would be if you did not know how long your workday would last or when your next task would begin? For students with Autism, this is an everyday struggle that can hinder their social and academic skills.

We are a self-contained classroom serving students ages six to ten.

The class consists of seven students: five girls and two boys. The class includes students with visual impairments, Autism, physical disabilities, and speech-language disorders. They are a loving, curious class that are learning skills that will help them function in an ever-changing world.

My Project

One major frustration of my students is not knowing how long an activity lasts or when the next may begin. Understanding time would give them more opportunities for social interactions with their peers and reduce anxiety when working on academic work. The best way to help the wide-variety of students in my classroom is through the use of visual timers. These timers will help students gain a concept of passing time in a very concrete fashion. The students can use the visual timers to help them with time management skills and understanding their daily schedules.

We all want students to succeed and giving them this valuable tool will open up that door to success.

Giving them the gift of the concept of time will give them the building blocks for social skills, academic achievement, and work skills that they need for their future. Thank you so much for your consideration to fund our project. Please give us the time to succeed in the classroom!
