This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a newly appointed teacher, I have so many ideas of what my classroom can look like and all of the fun activities I can expose my new students to.

I will have a total of 12 students in a special education setting, all under 8 years old!

All of my students come from culturally diverse families and low socioeconomic households. My students may not have access to the most basic resources outside of school, therefore it is important to me that I use all of the resources available to me as an educator to gather what they need.

My Project

As we all know COVID-19 forced the city to shutdown resulting in caretakers to lose jobs and experience financial hardships. Although unemployment was a huge help for some, not all claims were processed.

With our NYC children going into remote or blended learning, the supplies they will need to be fully prepared to learn and work at home will look much different.

Families will not be able to keep up with finances especially if they must remain out of work to take care of their young children who will be learning from home.

The list of supplies are basics that the families in my special needs class will need for the entire year. My goal is to create 12 boxes full of supplies for my kids and ship/deliver it to their homes.
