I have the best students, and I want to give them the best! Because of the daily obstacles my students face, some of them find education very challenging. Many come to school without their basic needs being met, so it is hard for them to focus on math, science, or reading. I try to think outside of the box so that my kids are engaged and want to learn.
There a variety of learning tools that I would love to bring to our classroom to help us learn.
First, I believe teaching social emotional learning is crucial for my students. Without this, learning is challenging. I am seeking a couple of books to help teach my students to manage their emotions when things get tough.
For math, we would love some exciting games to make math fluency more engaging. We are also seeking some large board protractors. We do our math in groups at whiteboards on the wall. The large board protractors will help us learn about measuring angles.
Next, we will be participating in a postcard exchange activity with other classrooms around the United States. We will research and learn about Utah and write postcards to other 4th and 5th graders. In exchange, we will receive postcards from other states to learn about them. To do this we will need some Utah postcards to send.
Lastly, and probably the most exciting, we will be engineering Scribble Bots this year. To do this, we will need small motors to attach to our robots to scribble on paper. The robots will be made with cups and markers. We do this to learn about energy transfer in science.
