Do you learn better in small group instruction? This is what I am trying to do for my struggling readers.
Hi! I teach 5th grade language arts, writing, and arts and humanities in a high poverty rural Appalachian county school. I am working with my students that are struggling and not reading at grade level in a small group setting, within my regular 5th grade classroom.
We are currently pushing our desk together and this process is not only disruptive to the other students it takes away from the instructional time that I have with these students.
If I only had a kidney shaped table! I could already have a corner of my room set up with the materials that my group needs. This would be an area that I could make warm and inviting where the students would actually want to be.
Your help with my project will enable students that are not reading at grade level a chance at small group instruction that will close the gap from where they are at to grade level. After all, doesn't everyone deserve the best chance they can get at the best education possible?
