Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am teaching social studies and science to all of our 3rd graders this year! They love to learn and get their hands dirty. My students live in an extremely low-income area which often limits their exposure to life experiences. Because of this, I try to bring as many real-life discoveries into our classroom that I can. My students take on every challenge head-on and would love to have a science-based classroom!
My students work really hard to achieve our classroom goals, I want to make sure they have everything they need to be successful.
That includes having the support and resources they need to help them build their love for science and education!
My Project
The past few years have been extremely tough on everyone. Schools and families are struggling. Teachers and students alike have seemed to lose their enthusiasm for school. My hope is that this multi-part project can help with that.
My goal is to bring the "fun" back into the fundamentals of learning.
My kids love the flexible seating that I currently have, but there is not enough for all students to use at once, so I thought more seating would inspire them. I try to have a well stocked prize box at all times to reward students who go above and beyond. They will be thrilled with all of these surprises. Kids this year are at least 2 school years behind their current grade level, so having a high interest library is a must for these skeptical learners. I am attempting to make accommodations for kids who need to voice dictate their rough draft writing and many of these materials will help me to make a "sound studio" so students can voice text without classmate interruptions. The head sets are for voice recognition apps and the mice and headphones are for students to use and the ink is to ensure students can print their hard work!
Many of these materials are requested to help restock materials for our classroom (and my team teacher's rooms as well), while some are there to make school a little more interesting. This year has been tough so far seeing kids who haven't yet bought in to the idea that school is fun and rewarding. My hope is that these materials will help bring the sparkle back into their lives that this pandemic tried to steal. Thank you so very much for considering our project
