Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are 21st Century learners who are eager to use all of the technology available to them! I teach 30 curious, fourth grade scientists in a small, Title I school that has an amazing and supportive principal.
My students are eager to learn, and their brains are sponges that absorb any and all information given to them.
Everything is a potential investigation or experiment to them, so I strive to provide my students with as many learning and project-based opportunities as possible. I constantly enhance the school curriculum and students' intrinsic motivation to learn more by infusing STEM correlations whenever possible.
Because of our small school size, funding levels are not as high as other schools in our area. Grants and projects like this one become an integral part of how I obtain resources to supplement learning experiences. I truly believe that the future lies in our children, that they have virtually unlimited potential, and my job is to enable them to reach it.
My Project
My students need one more round activity table for creative conversations and cooperative learning opportunities. My students are active learners who are engaged in many hands-on, project-based experiences every single day. As such, they need working spaces that are flexible and allow for cooperative group work. Round tables are a natural fit for these activities.
My classroom is being transformed from a traditional, square desk space, to one that supports open-ended inquiry and ongoing discussions that facilitate tolerance and diversity.
When students sit at round tables conversations come natural and easier because students are facing each other. This enhances sharing ideas and opinions during classroom discussions because all students will have an equal opportunity to share.
If this project funds all of my students will be able to take advantage of this flexible starting option. The collaboration possibilities will be endless! My 21st-century learners deserve a classroom that can change to meet their needs. Getting this proposal funded is the first step!
