This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a New Jersey public preschool serving children between the ages of 3 and 5 years old. Our school is a dual language school (English/Spanish). I teach children from various backgrounds and walks of life, making my classroom a reflection of the surrounding community. Many students in my class are ELLs and speak a language other than English at home. As a result, having limited language skills makes teaching and learning more challenging.
I expose my students to a quality book read aloud and activities in my classroom, and I would like to continue providing learning experiences at home as well.
My students take pride in what they learn and accomplish at school and at home. Often times our families have low or limited income and lack the resources to provide quality books, educational games, and activities to support learning especially now when they are confined at home in shelter-in-place.
My children enjoy reading and learning new things and sharing with their families all the exciting experiences they encounter each day. Social distancing is hindering their ability to learn, and this project will help me interact and stay a little closer to my students during distance learning.
My Project
In my classroom my students sit in two groups for learning, playing, and eating their meals. Sitting at the table in two large groups was a normal practice prior to the Covid-19 pandemic; but now we need to sit apart to social distance and be safe in the classroom. The Flash Furniture Rectangular Natural Plastic Height Adjustable Activity Tables I am requesting in this project will provide my students with adequate seating and a smooth surface for writing on and completing literacy or doing art activities. Students will have ample room to place their iPads and work with manipulatives for fine motor development while still maintaining a safe social distance from their peers.
