Help me give my students alphabet picture visuals and magnetic chalk/dry erase boards to practice letter formation, develop fine motor skills using magnetic letters, markers and chalk as they work together but remotely from home.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are working on developing social skills, language skills, early math skills, literacy and physical development skills that will help them set the foundation to transition to kindergarten. They attend a special day class that serves children three to five years old with a range of eligibilities from developmental delays, autism and speech and language impairments. They come from different backgrounds and low-income families.
My students have different abilities and face different challenges.
Many of my students are non-verbal and lack social interaction skills and experiences. They come to school ready to learn new skills and excited to engage in new experiences every day. My students benefit from visuals, sensory stimulating experiences, manipulatives, technology and literacy materials that help spark their interest and attention to help them learn new skills and build on their knowledge based on their abilities and interests.
My Project
My students are facing the new challenge of learning from home. They all have different needs, interests and are developing pre-writing skills. These magnetic chalk/wipe board will be a great enhancement to their learning day. It will help them learn and stay engaged longer as they have fun during art and literacy activities. The magnetic letters will be a great visual for them to practice letter recognition. The jumbo boards will allow my assistants to collaborate from home and motivate them through modeling during activities.
As we embark in our remote learning journey, these materials can also be used at home to reinforce their literacy and fine motor skills.
