This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My fifth grade students are eager to learn but face many challenges. We are a Title 1 school meaning the majority of our students come from low income households and require supplemental funds to help meet their educational needs. 90% of our children receive free lunch.
Most of my students are language learners, many of whom are newcomers.
They are learning to adjust and are excited to learn. Unfortunately they are accustomed to "doing without" or using supplies from previous years and are so appreciative of new materials that I am sometimes able to provide for them.
My Project
My 5th grade blended learners spend half of their school week learning in person at school and the other half at home. They have been trying so hard to stay on top of their school work this year but unfortunately the pandemic is making this increasingly hard for them.
Unfortunately, due to the rising number of COVID cases, our school has closed for the third time this school year and I try my best to keep our class together even though we are apart.
In order to do this and provide my students with an enriching school year I need to be able to work in real time, record lessons, stream videos, conference with parents and have access to online materials without lag or freezing. A new Macbook Air will help me meet all of these demands of remote learning and maintain a consistent connection with my students and their families as there is no telling how many more times this year we will be bouncing back and forth between fully remote and blended learning.
