This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach a span special day class, for students in K-4th grade, with disabilities. All of my students need strong visual support in order to access the lessons that I am trying to teach online. I have very few engaging books and materials at home to help my students learn.
My Project
When I left my classroom in March, I didn't realize how few engaging books and math materials I had at home. I never imagined that I would find myself teaching a kindergarten through 4th-grade special day class from my computer.
All of my students receive free lunch, and most live in small, crowded apartments.
Many students are struggling to keep engaged and learning right now.
My students love math and science. I would love to get some books to read aloud. The math manipulatives would serve as a tool that I can use during Zoom lessons to go over material easily and to display visual models for all of my students. I will also be able to use all of these materials with future classes in the classroom during carpet time work or in small groups.
