Learning to spell with Hasbro Play-doh!

My students need Hasbro play-doh and alphabet cutters to enhance and improve their spelling, vocabulary, and letter recognition skills in a fun and creative way.

My Students

My students are public school children from an improvised district in Michigan. Most are Title 1 students that receive free breakfast and lunch. They are special education students with a range of disabilities. They receive Resource Program services to help support them in their General Education

It seems I always hear, "Who needs spelling?" Then, I have to say, "We all need spelling!" Since the introduction of text messages it seems that spelling is losing its importance.

Short cuts are fine for a text message, but when we write in school we need to use actual words spelled correctly! My students work really hard to keep up with their classmates, and to pass their classes. We try to provide as much support as possible to assist them in retaining learned ideas and information in fun and creative ways.

My Project

This donation of Hasbro play-doh and alphabet cutters will show my students how to creatively make letters and words in a fun and engaging manner. Who does not like to play with play-doh? It's the first thing they go for when they have free time in the classroom. This play-doh will not only help to increase their letter and word recognition skills, but will also help to stimulate their tactile senses. My students will not only be learning, but enjoying their learning.

This donation will give my students the option to think outside the box and be creative.

They will be able to make their words come to life as they learn. Hasbro play-doh and alphabet cutters will be used in small groups, as well as in an whole group setting. It will be primarily used in centers for individualized and independent activities. Creating with play-doh will encourage students to learn in a way that is fun and engaging.
