Learning to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle

My students need books to read aloud about recycling and 18 book boxes. My students need to learn the importance of reusing items in our classroom and our community.

My Students

Who taught you the importance of recycling? Who showed you how to reuse objects instead of throwing them away daily? As a Kindergarten teacher I feel it is vital to teach my students ways to recycle and show them how I am recycling inside our very own classroom.

I teach in a Kindergarten classroom full of energetic children.

It is a high poverty school with a large free and reduced lunch rate. It is my job to make sure my students have all of the resources they need to be successful. I need to lay down a solid base in all subject areas to start them off on the right foot. I want my students to continue to try hard and reach their fullest potential.

My Project

Year after year I plan on using these materials to teach students the importance of recycling. Using things more then once (or one school year) is important to me and is something that needs to be taught. Many children think nothing of using a new water bottle everyday and when they are done throwing out the plastic. I hope through reading I can share the importance of reusing a container for your water throughout the year. I would also like to show them inside my classroom by having my books organized in book boxes that will be recycled year after year. Instead of using cardboard that is used for one school year and thrown out I would like to "practice what I preach" and clean and reuse my book boxes for years to come. During the year I will be able to show them ways to recycling and how we are doing it inside of the classroom.

My project will make a difference for the rest of their lives.

I hope to make and impact early enough that they will continue to recycle at home as well as at school. By hearing about recycling, seeing ways that I recycle, and recycling themselves it will make a difference in our classroom, our school, and our world. Thank you for helping me, to help them.
