This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Reduce, reuse and recycle must be the mantra for this new century. Our existence on this planet depends on it. Recycling has only become more frequent in the news media as more and more people are becoming aware of the serious environmental issues facing our planet.
Our school is a Title I school and the majority of students qualify for a free lunch.
My students come from a high poverty neighborhood with a very diverse range of home structures. Some of the students in my class are not working at grade level in reading and/or math. My students are eager to learn and enjoy anything that has to do with technology and hands-on activities.
My Project
The recycling process is a cycle and is composed of three stages. The first stage is the collecting and sorting. In this stage, waste materials are collected and then processed and sorted according to their type and use. After these materials are sorted, they are ready for the second stage, which is the manufacturing. The manufacturing stage is the phase where the collected and sorted materials are processed into new reusable products. Finally, after new products are manufactured, the next stage follows which is the selling of the recycled products to consumers. When the product that the consumers bought has served its purpose, the recycling process will then again continue as these products are collected. My students will be investigating with the Kindle Fire HD. They will be researching these questions: What is recycling? Why is recycling important? What materials can be recycled? They will share their findings with the class.
My project is very important because my students need to understand the importance of taking care of our mother planet through recycling.
The Kindle Fire and accessories will serve as a tool in my students' understanding of this topic.
