Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My young students are Kindergarten age. They are fun, energetic, and curious 5 to 6 year olds. My students are ready to learn about math, reading and writing. My students are eager to learn math facts, how to be a good reader and writer. We like to draw and write in our writing journals and our teachers help us to write complete sentences. It is exciting to be an author and an illustrator. We are also learning how to add and subtract, use a ten-frame and count on a number-line. The supplies we need will help to stock up our reading, writing and math centers. Who knows? Maybe we might have a famous author, illustrator or the next math genesis in our class!

My Project

The books are needed for guided reading time during small groups. I need good books at different levels for my Kindergarten students to become proficient readers before entering first grade. The books I used for guided reading have been read by all of my students multiple times. I could use these new books to provided students with new stories to read. During my language arts block; I meet with six groups of five children daily; to ensure they are reading at grade level.

The different level readers will help all students regardless of ability and keep the higher level students engage.

This is crucial to students success and interest in reading. It would be wonderful to have all my students reading at grade level before entering the first grade. I need my students to be successful and confident readers.

We are a Kindergarten classroom that host a Head Start program in our room everyday. I have 30 Kindergarten students and 17 Head Start students in the evening. We are lacking space for our books, folders, journals and notebooks. The sit sacks would help to gain much needed floor space. We are currently using different color baskets to hold all the students supplies. The sit sacks will keep our Kindergarten materials out of the way of Head Start allowing us to create space for all of us.
