Learning to Read & Write With the Travelling Surface Pro!

My students need a Surface Pro tablet so that I can be effectively mobile when teaching them reading and writing while travelling from class to class school-wide.

My Students

"Are you ready Tigers?" is what I always ask my reading and writing students every day. They always answer with a resounding "Yes!" as they enter my class. After the destruction Hurricane Irma left our community, our students need all the positive reinforcement they can get!

My school has a high number of students who are ESOL, ELL and there are a few who are SPED and gifted.

Even though we have to cater for and adapt to such a wide range of learning needs, we know that all children will learn if given the right tools and technology (and teachers who care). As their reading teacher and school-wide reading coach, one of my main objectives are to facilitate the students I serve using the most up-to-date technology, while improving and enhancing their reading experiences.

My Project

I am currently the lead reading teacher and school-wide reading coach, and one of my main responsibilities is to introduce new strategies using technology online that target the "close" reading process. Also, I am expected to present the most current research-based reading strategies that my fellow teachers can implement in the classroom, in order to improve reading skills and learning gains.

Currently, the capacity of my students have been limited and challenged due to the impact of Hurricane Irma.

As a traveling reading teacher and coach, having a Surface Pro tablet as an instructional aide will allow me to enhance learning how to read and write, by encouraging the use of technology, especially since our school is soon to be STEAM based.

Our school is in the process of being a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) designated school, and exposing my students to new technology advances and showing them how to utilize online resources using the Surface Pro tablet, will also put them at a great advantage.
