Learning To Read With Technology

My Students

I believe that learning should be fun and that when students today can actively participate with information, they can hold that knowledge forever. That is what a Toshiba Thrive Tablet will do for my students.

Technology in my classroom is very limited!

My 22 students have one outdated computer, one fairly new computer, and two Toshiba Thrive Tablets to share. We have earned the two tablets this year from Donors Choose and the students have had such a great time learning. I am constantly asked "When will I get my turn?" Many of the children in my classroom are struggling readers and would benefit greatly from incorporated technology. About half of the students have computers at home, while the other half do not. Adding another educational tablet would open a whole new world of learning for my students.

My Project

Having and educational tablet in my classroom will provide my students with a highly engaging learning tool that helps meet the needs of my low achieving students as well as the high-achieving students who are ready to learn higher level skills. I have implemented the Daily 5 which allows the student to go to a listening center and listen to a story based on their reading level. Listening to someone read to them will increase their vocabulary and improve their reading and writing. You can help my class become fluent readers!
