This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"If you're happy and you know it ..."
"Star light, star bright,.."
Do you remember singing these simple songs from childhood? If the first part of a familiar song text is given, most of us will finish singing the song.
My students need MUSIC to learn their letters, sounds and sight words.
My students are new comers from another country and struggling readers that come to the learning center on a daily basis to receive extra support in language development, reading and math.
They enjoy read-alouds and shared readings where they are able to engage in rich discussions that lead towards making connection, partner sharing, retelling stories or sharing newly learned knowledge with their peers through different collaborative groupings.
Although my students are not reading yet, they love to sing. They enter my class singing the alphabet and the days of the week. I will use Singable songs for Letters and Sounds to help the kindergarten students learn the letter names and sounds to begin their first reading journey.
My Project
I am requesting one Sounds Fun Phonics DVD, Cut & Past Sight Word Sentences, and Sing & Spell the Sight Words - Volume 1-5 DVDs.
My students will be highly engaged as they watch and sing with the DVDs. I will use the Sing and Spell sight word DVDs with the first and second grade students to help them thrive in reading. The visuals, along with the movements, will provide all learners with the right tools to memorize the sight words. I will use the Cut & Paste Sight Words Sentences to reinforce the memorization of the sight words. It is essential that my students learn to recognize and read them automatically to become successful readers.
Music educators have known for years that quality music experiences enhance listening; invite intuitive and steady beat responses; and aid learning of vocabulary, sound, emotional responses, creative responses, memory, and many hours of fun for our young students.
