Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work in a public school system where I teach deaf and hard of hearing children. More than half of my students come from economically disadvantaged families. My students are very young and experienced varied hearing levels. Once they are fitted with hearing technology, they need to learn to associate sounds to the actual object. Having books with props will help them learn and associate animals and the sounds they make. The students will learn using sight and sound. Giving families books with props will allow parents to continue teaching their child language at home.

My goal is for the parents to see how their child can develop preliteracy skills at the same time they are learning to use their auditory skills.

Brown Bear is a wonderful book that provides repetition and allows students to use their auditory skills. My students are so special because they are new to the world of hearing and are learning to listen to the environment around them.
