Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are first graders that are in a Title I school, a school with over 90% of the students qualify for free and reduced lunch. Over 90% of the students attending my school are affected by poverty. Often times my students are experiencing homelessness throughout the school year. My students have a strong desire to learn and explore. This project will allow my students from very diverse backgrounds to work collaboratively as we learn the important foundation of financial literacy. This will help my first grader students to understand and learn the essential concept of economics.

My Project

Having resources and activities that are rich with literature, will provide a foundation and love that our students need for reading. These fun filled reading skill activities will provide an engaging opportunity for our students to work together during rotations.

Our students are going to get excited about reading!

Students will be able to pick the extension or activity they would like to use with a partner or independently during independent reading rotations. After engaging in reading, our students will be able to have meaningful conversations about what they have read. They will be able to practice and engage is story retells, making recommendations and identifying the story elements in a book, In addition to practicing a number of reading skills these activities will offer.

Not only are the kids able to use the resources in the classroom but they will be able to check them out over the weekend so that they can engage in their learning with their families. There's no better way to learn than to teach those around us.
