Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are in Kindergarten and first grade and are learning English, socially and academically, alongside the grade level curriculum. They are determined, brave, motivated and caring. Most grow to love school and find excitement in challenge of learning to communicate with their peers as well as use their new language to grow academically, learning beginning literacy practices that will set them up for future academic success!
For some of my students, this is their first educational experience, and it is happening in a completely new language for them!
It is critical to foster a love of learning from the beginning, while encouraging students to step outside of their linguistic comfort zone in order to take risks and begin learning English. Engagement at this age in this first experience is crucial and we love to use hands-on activities.
I plan to use the books to help foster an early love of reading and literacy; we love Pete the Cat and Elephant and Piggie!
Many thanks in advance! Your contributions are highly appreciated and impactful.
