Learning to Read for Special Needs!

Help me give my students the Edmark Reading Program, designed especially for students with special needs!

My Students

My special education students come to school every day with smiles on their faces and ready to learn. They are eager to please and to work hard. But from the moment the bell rings, they struggle. Academics do not come easy for my students. Many struggle in all areas: reading, writing, and math. They fall farther and farther behind their peers and their confidence dwindles. Although there are many possible reasons for this, one cause is clear. The challenge is poverty.

My special needs students attend an elementary school that has the most students in poverty as well as the most English Language Learners district-wide.

We are a Title I school where greater than 80% of our students receive free lunch. Our school has some of the greatest teachers in the district, but our test scores show that our students are still below district and state averages. Furthermore, our school has a low graduation rate, and studies show that the risk of dropping out of high school starts in elementary. As teachers, we want the very best for our students, but we are faced with heavy challenges.

My Project

My student is a happy, young girl who enjoys school and loves to learn just like her classmates. However, she has significant special needs, which impacts her progress towards reading. She needs a specialized reading program for students just like her. The Edmark Reading Program is a fun, interactive reading program that is specially designed to help students with special needs learn how to read!

What is especially great about this program is that it is online, meaning we can use it at school and at home!

My student will have a great time learning how to read with this program at school. If my school has to close due to COVID-19, my student will still be able to access this program online at home, so her learning will not be interrupted! Edmark uses colorful and fun interactive features to teach children whole words. With this program, my student will have fun learning and will be reading in no time!
