Learning to Read and Write!

My students need many different manipulatives to use and work with while they are in both independent centers and small groups working on reading with me, such as alphabet sounds teaching tubs, letter stamps, and magnetic lapboards.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Antrim's classroom raised $562

My Students

My students came into my classroom this year with a desire to learn to read! Every day, we read stories together and work on our sight words. I want my kids to be successful and avid readers by the end of the year. My challenge is keeping them engaged while I meet with other small groups.

I have 26 wonderful kindergarten children that come ready to soak up all the knowledge they can, like little sponges!

We are in an inner city school where over 90% of our children receive free or reduced lunch. We lack a budget to buy the little things for our classroom to support our teaching, do not enough materials to go around and/or share with a small group of students. They are so eager to learn; we celebrate when we have learned new things and have made connections to what we already know!

My Project

My students need many different manipulatives to use and work with while they are in both independent centers and small groups working on reading with me, such as alphabet sounds teaching tubs, letter stamps, and magnetic lapboards. With these materials, my students will be able to work independently or with a buddy during our literacy centers. They will be able to build our sight words with the stamps, magnetic letters or write them. They can learn about letter names and sounds using the letter tubs and many of the other items. I envision each student working and learning and seeing their little faces light up as they make connections to the letters, sounds, and words!

This donation will improve our classroom because it will give the students more choices in what to choose when going to their centers to work independently or with a buddy until it is their turn to meet with me in their small reading groups.

It will change their lives for the better because these materials offer a variety of ways to learn (sight, visual, tactile) their letters, sounds, and sight words.
