Learning to Read And Make Connections Using Children's Magazines!

My students need "My Big World with Clifford" magazine to learn early reading skills and to make connections to our area of study.

My Students

My PreK scholars are amazing! The are the only full day class in our school. They are eager to learn and love being in school. Our school is very diverse and takes pride in welcoming and engaging all scholars and families. We are committed to creating a school where kids feel safe, loved, and motivated.

As a school, we take pride in creating an environment where we celebrate diversity, discuss and study racial equity, and "inspire all scholars to reach high levels of social and academic achievement and to become future leaders through a collaborative system of support" (Our School's Mission Statement).

My Project

My PreK scholars are developing early reading skills. We develop and strengthen these skills in large group and small group activities. In my small groups, I use data to plan instruction to fit the needs of each scholar. Having the "My Big World with Clifford" magazines will allow my scholars to learn new skills using colorful, engaging magazines.

My scholars will use the magazines to practice reading skills, connect and learn more about our area of study, and bring home to share with their families.

Many scholars and families have limited books. Having these magazines will allow my scholars to bring home new reading material two times per month. These magazines will help scholars learn more about subjects such as life cycles and weather.

In small groups, scholars will practice finding the title of the magazine. They may also identify the front and back of the book, and point to where to begin reading. Scholars may also circle letters and words. We will discuss the photos and make There are so many ways to connect these fun and colorful magazines to our learning!
