My Students
My Pre-K students live in a diverse neighborhood consisting of hard-working people and unfortunately, many bad influences. Their parents often work more than one job to make ends meet. Many parents are English language learners themselves and cannot always help the students with their homework. They are lucky to attend a school that has an administration with bold ambitions for them.
This year, we are going to develop a love of science and nature by observing and caring for marine plants and animals.
My Project
The 4-year-olds who will be starting Pre-K in September have little access to living animals, especially those in the water! I believe an appreciation of science begins early on and it isn't found in textbooks for the little ones.
Seeing, observing, discussing, and drawing aquatic animals will help stir their curiosity for learning about the world around them.
This project provides a 2o gallon water ecosystem. These plants and animals will be the jumping off point for many discussions about the wonderful diversity of the world around them.
Do goldfish dream? Can we live in an aquarium? Why do some animals walk and some swim? All good questions ready to be discussed!
