Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Each year, I see a need for my students to develop not just their literacy skills, but also their oral language skills and vocabulary.

My students always need more experience with learning manipulatives.

Sadly, our reading curriculum doesn't provide rich, rigorous, and enjoyable opportunities or materials to physically manipulate letters and sounds. There are only so many worksheets they can tolerate doing before they need a change of pace.

My Kindergarten students crave mental and physical engagement. They deserve to love their school experience, building friendships as much as they will build a strong foundation for their academic career.

They need these project materials so that they can develop their oral language skills as they work in pairs and small groups. This will help them to develop socially as well, helping them learning to share and take turns, and fostering communication with words that encourage and uplift their peers.

And those lanyards with the ID holders? They help the students to recognize their own and others' names, with the added benefit of keeping them safe on campus during those first days of school
