Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My colleague and I are literacy intervention teachers, helping 40 elementary-age kids who struggle with reading. They love books...all that's needed is some support to get them reading on their own! We teach the fundamentals, such as: ABCs, letter sounds, phonics, and sight word recognition. In our room, kids use certain materials (sight word flash cards, rulers that "highlight" a sentence so they can track the words, small white boards & markers, ABC flashcards, etc.). Right now, the kids have to carry stuff to and from their classroom and ours, so things tend to end up who knows where. If kids have a mailbox to keep their stuff IN our classroom, things will stay neat and tidy...and (more importantly) won't get lost! The little tables are for us, teachers. When working with our small groups of kids at little tables, we have no place to keep our stuff for each lesson. This means we're constantly getting up and down to get what we need. A small table...next to where each of us sits while teaching...means we'll always have what we need at hand. Many thanks to all who choose to donate! You are appreciated!
