Learning To Love Books And Connect Writing To Reading
My students need these durable, hardcover notebooks to use all year.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Tejeda's classroom raised $501

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Teaching students to be good writers is one of the most difficult challenges a teacher faces; learning to be a good writer is one of the hardest challenges a student faces. Pencils, copy paper, and glue are often in short supply in our classroom. Help us to have a writing tool that lasts all year.
My students are a beautiful, eclectic group of young people who love to learn.
They are an "at risk" group of students because of their socioeconomic status and because of the inner city location where they attend school. The first day of school excitement can last all year long when students are provided with the tools they need to succeed. They face the challenge of being near the bottom of the list with regard to per pupil expenditure in the United States. We simply don't have the supplies we need on a regular basis.
My Project
These notebooks will be used all year long to help students to make a personal connection to what they read. They will help them to process what they read and help them to discover what they feel and think about a book. The hardcover notebooks are imperative because we will be writing every single day, and we need the notebooks to last all year long. Their progress can be easily monitored because their writing will stay inside the notebook and will not be ripped out. Writing one hour a day five days a week requires a durable notebook. The beautiful thing is that students won't even feel the pain of all of that writing! They will be engaged, responding to books they have chosen and are learning to love and explore. Sharing their thinking, responding, inquiring, and even explaining why a book isn't right for them are just some of the ways we will use our notebooks.
This project is important because students will be working individually to correspond with me to share their thinking and to respond to literature that they have chosen.
Having the proper "reading" notebook is essential to the success of this reading and writing program. A life long love of reading will be learned, while simultaneously and dramatically improving writing and grammar skills. Most importantly, the individuality and diversity of each student will be embraced through writing.
