My Students

This year, I am working with a great bunch of first graders! In my class, I have 31 of the most loving, caring, and brightest scholars! They come to school hungry, looking for a safe environment to be themselves. Our school provides breakfast and lunch to our children.

My students and I have created a safe, engaging, homelike environment for us to learn and grow together.

We will use this time together for not only them to grow as students, soaking in information, reaching their goals, and moving on to the next grade, but also for me to grow as a teacher.

That's where DonorChoose comes in. My students are from Detroit. Not everyone can buy school supplies, and our school is fairly new. We don't have all of the materials that well established schools have.

My Project

Children learn at different paces. The children in my classroom are at all different levels. These leveled readers will help even my struggling readers level up. I will have a variety of books for the children to choose from during independent reading time.

Having the fiction and nonfiction books will also help my students.

It will help me teach the children the differences between fiction and nonfiction, which can sometimes be a hard concept to grasp. Having nonfiction books that are their level, they can read them on their own, will help them understand the concept of fiction vs. nonfiction.
