My goal with this project it to create a hands-on gardening lesson based on the theme of the LORAX. "Unless someone like you care a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better it's not." We will learn the importance of plants, trees and growing your own food, but more importantly how ONE person can make a difference and make their mark on the world through hard-work and dedication to this project. The data we collect can be used by others to carry out a more successful project.
Gardening projects allow my STEAM learners to gain knowledge through experience, fostering a growth mindset through trial and error and learning about possible career paths.
We will have a greenhouse station, propagation station and raised bed plot. Students will have access to books about hydroponics, seeds, soil, and propagation to help gain information and skills through inquiry. Propagation stations will be located in our Super Fab STEAM Lab. We will conduct multiple research projects and activities with these requested propagation materials. Also, we will use our school greenhouse to germinate the seeds requested. Students will each create a hypothesis and plan for their seeds. The raised beds will be constructed next to our greenhouse to compare possibilities for grow our own food throughout the year.
