This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have 22 wonderfully diverse students in my class this year speaking six different languages. I teach at a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) Magnet school.
My students are hard-working, sweet students that come to school ready to learn.
They are excited about learning, excited about their friends and excited about the world around them.
My Project
After spending a year in distance learning, all of my students want to socialize and play with the other kids in the class. The books I am requesting are books about building kindness and compassion. Getting to know each other and being able to work well with others will be important since we have been away from each other for so long. One of the best ways to do this is through stories in books.
When students can relate and see themselves in literature, it is easier for them to begin conversations about kindness, empathy and compassion for others.
These books will be a great way to start conversations about learning to get along.
