This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Want to see fireworks? Then come see my students in a roundtable discussion. There, you will see students engaged in a fervent discussion about theme and characterization in prose, the use of literary devices in poetry. You will see a genuine and passionate interest in literature.
Many of my students will be the first in their families to graduate high school and the first to attend (and graduate) college.
They are smart, motivated, and hilarious. They make time in my classroom fly by. In fact, time with them doesn't feel like work. It feels like being at a BBQ with family. In other words, my students make class feel like home.
My Project
My students will use the 30 copies of "Song of Solomon" to write about and discuss the African American experience. In addition, they will also explore the themes of culture, loss, friendship, family, and the search for identity, something my seniors will surely embark upon the following year in college.
Your donation will expose my students to one of the greatest voices in American literature: Toni Morrison.
Also, it will expose students to some of the great questions in life: Who are we? Where do we come from? Most importantly, students will learn what it means to fly.
