My students need a fish tank, fish, a see through bird house and a digital camera to learn about life cycles, caring for living things, and for sharing their findings.
"If a window of opportunity appears, don't pull down the shade," (Thomas Peters) throw it wide open and observe the world! My students are excited to learn about the world around them by using various hands on or eyes on opportunities.
My students are identified as having special learning needs.
Most of my students are non-verbal and some have difficulty navigating the environment around them. They often have sensory needs and are unable to tolerate loud noises or changes in schedules. Most of all, my students are incredibly resilient and love learning about the world around them.
My Project
My students need a fish tank, fish, a see through bird house and a digital camera to learn about life cycles, caring for living things, and for sharing their findings. With these materials, my students will be able to observe birds and fish on a daily basis while using the camera to document what they see. The pictures will be used to create books for the students to author and share with their peers. This will encourage not only their reading and writing skills, but also provide opportunities to socialize with other students and adults throughout the building. My students will feel pride in something they have completed.
In addition, the students will be responsible for feeding the fish as part of their daily morning routine. Another classroom job will be a daily picture of the birdhouse to document changes. This will work to encourage responsibility and caring for others.
Your donation will help to create a learning environment that encourages observation, understanding of some animals and life cycles, encouragement of sharing with others, and opportunities for socialization.
