Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I need tools to support my elementary and middle school students in further developing their self-regulation skills. I believe if my students develop these skills in their early years, when they reach middle school they will be equipped to succeed academically and social-emotionally, since they would possess executive functioning skills, e.g., self-determination. Some of my middle-school students did not develop these skills and are struggling to relate appropriately with peers and be self-determined. Learning to regulate their emotions will help them be successful in middle-school and when they enter the workforce.
Specifically, I plan to teach social and emotional learning with the support of the two curricular books I am requesting.
Further, I plan to utilize fidgets when students are learning social and emotional skills, so students feel comfortable. When people share their emotions or listen to other people's emotions, I believe unwanted emotions might arise, e.g., anxiety. Fidgets will help to regulate students' emotions while talking about and participating in activities to develop their self-regulation and self-determination.
I also wish to receive items, e.g., manipulatives and chart paper, to support students in visualizing abstract mathematical and literacy concepts, so students will master grade-level content. I believe mastery of grade-level content and social and emotional development go hand-in-hand. If students can master grade-level skills, I believe they are likely to make progress social-emotionally and vice versa.
I am a special education teacher who teaches students with mild-to-moderate disabilities. Students will experience a measurable difference in their academic and social-emotional skill development due to your donation. Thank you so much.
