The students at our school are very diverse and unique. They speak many different languages. They often come from all over the world, and a lot of them have just arrived in the United States. They face all sorts of challenges. However, music class is a place where they can be successful and be part of a community.
Music is a universal language.
These students may lack the ability to communicate with language for awhile after they start school, but music is a place where all students can be successful. It also teaches vital skills like collaboration, teamwork, grit and resilience. Students learn to put themselves out there, and they are rewarded with their combined effort results in something none of them could have achieved alone: rich, diverse and beautiful music?
