Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is a small middle school in Downtown Los Angeles. Most students are from socioeconomically challenged communities and may be the first in their families to attend college. Middle school is a rough time, as most of us know, and it is our jobs as teachers to not only teach them subject matter, but also guide them through the intricacies of these middle grades.
Many students come to school with disheveled backpacks and crinkled homework pages, demonstrating a struggle with organization, which is something they often vocalize wanting to be better at.
In order to help guide students through middle school, one thing they need to practice is organizational skills. These are skills that will help them throughout their lives, so they are essential life skills. Not all of my students can afford organizational tools, which is why I have created this project.
My Project
One big piece of the puzzle of what it means to do well in school is having organizational tools and skills. Students need to know where their work and information is so that they can easily access each. They will keep all of their work in binders with page protectors holding the main notes for the unit so that they can find each unit quickly. These binders will remain in the classroom for them to access during every English class period. The goal that I have for my students is that they will learn to be organized, see how easy it can be with the right materials to make it happen, and maintain these organizational skills throughout their lives in order to find success in any aspect of life!
