Learning to Be Creative Problem Solvers

My students need these art supplies and manipulatives in our centers to help them develop their thinking and problem skills, strengthen their fine motor skills and to help them to become comfortable with their own creativity.

My Students

I am very excited to be in a new school and have a great new bunch of boys and girls this year. I teach in a small school where the student population is very, very diverse. The diversity is exciting!! Boys and girls from all over the world are beginning their academic lives and growing together as they do it. Many of these families are not only new to our area but are also new to our country. It is wonderfully encouraging to me; as adult to see boys and girls of all different colors and many different languages getting along with each other and helping one another become the best kindergartner they can be. What a great picture of what our world should look like!!

My Project

Having creative building materials like this "Tottering tower" (and the other building kits) will help my boys and girls make a goal, (build a tower), build the tower (using fine motor skills and creative thinking), problem solve (make it stand up) and reach a goal (It is done!!) The play dough and kinetic sand are a delightful way to improve fine motor skills and be creative. And of course puzzles are simply "puzzling'; but offer ample opportunity to "puzzle" things out and receive immediate reward of seeing a completed picture!!

My goal through all of these center based activities is to help boys and girls have confidence in their own ability to attack a problem and see it completed, they gain confidence and valuable skills that can be applied in real life situations!!
