Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Welcome! Step in to the shoes of an English language learner. You will need your eyes, ears, hands, and everything you came with from your native land to help you reach the highest star in the sky.
My students are English language learners who come from all over South America and the Caribbean.
They may have some or no academic language whatsoever in their native language. They attend a school in New York City that provides ESL(English as a second language) or a transitional bilingual program. Many choose the bilingual program because it allows the student to interact and learn academic language in Spanish as they transition into the second language. Some students are eager to learn, others are very scared, others are culture-shocked, and others have never sat in a classroom. Some have support of caregivers and others just don't.
My Project
Many if not all of the students do not speak English so they depend on the environment for support. The resources that are being sought at this time will assist, stimulate, and change my students for the best.
Visual interactive pocket charts will help students understand what is being asked of them. I will have the ability to add reality, clarity, and variety to my lessons as well as every day drills.
Hands-on differentiated material will assist my students to understand and learn from what they do. Many of the games sought will motivate their learning and lift their confidence in the most positive way. The more they practice and play with hands- on activities, the more they learn strategies and concepts. They will even learn from themselves and others. Their minds will grow and learn based on the experiences and from their environment. The classroom needs to be interactive, simple, and differentiated with grade level material.
The students in my class will have interactive, differentiated material that will help them gain knowledge, skills, strategies, as well as independence and understanding of the English language.
They will develop confidence in what they learn and in themselves. Visuals and hands-on activities will develop independence and self corrected situations and they will have the opportunity to bloom in their own particular way.
