FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. T.'s classroom raised $292
This project is fully funded
I teach the Blind and Visually Impaired students in my county. They work hard to keep up but it takes many manipulative materials to accomplish that. It is my philosophy that the blind children I teach can learn as quickly and be as productive as their sighted classmates when given the opportunities to access the information. Most learning is accessed through vision. If there is no vision, then materials have to be created in a tactile manner in order to "see" differently.
One of my students will be in the first grade next year. She did very well in kindergarten but it took a great deal of manipulative or "crafty" types of materials to recreate worksheets and touch books to enable her to keep up with her classmates.
Materials are costly and many are needed to reproduce worksheets and books. These cannot be recycled most of the time so they are quite consumable. It is my desire to have enough materials on hand that she will have everything she needs in a timely manner instead of waiting for me to try to find the materials I need.
Being blind is truly an inconvenience more than a handicap but certain considerations have to be made to help the children progress successfully in their school experience. Having the materials necessary to enable the child to access whatever she needs will be much appreciated.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
