My Students

We as a staff, work extremely hard to provide all students with a premier education. Yet, the lack of technological support creates a barrier to providing students with the interactive instruction they deserve.

I teach in an urban, diverse, high-need public school.

The school serves children from Kindergarten to 6th grade. 92% of the students in the school live at or below the poverty line. And many of my students have intellectual impairments, developmental delays, and emotional and behavioral disabilities. My classroom consists of 21 students, but this project would reach all of 1st grade year after year.

My Project

My students need an ELMO document camera to enhance instruction, engage students in their learning, and provide equal access for them to learn to use technology. We are asking for an Elmo to support our students' diverse learning needs. An Elmo is a live document camera. It will project and enlarge student work in real time. In addition, a teacher can demonstrate a task under the camera lenses and in real time the demonstration is enlarged and projected in full color. Guided reading is also more interactive, as the Elmo increases the size of print, enabling all students to follow along. The Elmo will be used during every lesson and will directly enhance the instruction during reading, writing, and math. The Elmo projector also supports the individual learning needs of our special education students.

All students have the right to an exceptional public education complete with access to 21st century technology.

We are a dedicated and motivated 1st grade team, providing premier teaching. Yet, our classrooms are outdated when it comes to technology. We need this technology to support our students and create learning environments that mirror the current resources available to so many other schools. Our students will all learn more readily with more visible class work presented to them and shown by them.
