Learning Through STEM

My students need STEM projects kits that are filled with project-based activities that encourage collaborative problem solving.

My Students

I teach in an urban area. All my students receive free lunches. They often lack the basic needs that we take for granted. They come to school hungry and unprepared to learn. Their parents can not provide them with the basic tools they need to succeed in school. Many of my students, who are only 6 years old, have already attended two or three schools.

However, they come to school curious, wanting to learn and explore, in a place that is safe and caring.

I do this by creating an environment that fosters their natural love for learning, a place where they can feel secure and cared about.

My Project

My students all learn at their own pace and each have their own learning style. By creating STEM learning centers in my classroom all my students will have the opportunity to discover the world of science.

My goal is to give my students experiences that will encourage them to take their new skills and continue their exploration outside the classroom.

With the Science Station students will develop skills in exploring magnets, exploring buoyancy, exploring motion, using scientific inquiry skills, and using tools for observation and investigation. Then with the Real World STEM Project kits my students will construct a working parachute, design a leakproof roof and engineer a floating raft!
