My Project
In our second ELA unit, students build their literacy and science skills as they engage in a study of fossils. Each of the books in this project are used in our 2nd grade ELA curriculum. The books on this list are the books that were not purchased by our school. These books will serve as our curriculum books that we read whole group, closely read in small groups, and individually read by students! The fossil bricks will be used during a science block to have students dig like paleontologists! The book bags will allow students to take home curriculum books and keep them safe while reading the text at home.
Students will learn about paleontologists, study fossils closely, and will become 2nd grade paleontologists at the end of the unit!
The guiding questions for this unit are:
What do paleontologists do?
How do characters in the text respond to major events?
What can we learn from studying fossils?
How do readers learn more about a topic from informational texts?
