Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Exploring our history through the eyes of a 10 year old. I want to engage my students through the experiences Annemarie Johannesen went through during this critical time in our history. As a sixth grade Language Arts and Math teacher, I have learned that the best way to engage my students is through the use of real life problems with the help of novels that portray adolescent characters.
One of the obstacles my students face is the lack of resources we have in our low poverty urban school. Because of the lack of supplies, my students are not able to read a good quality book that they can enjoy and learn from.
The resources I need are 30 copies of the novel "Number the Stars", a teacher's manual, and the audio CDs. This project will benefit my students in a number of ways. My students will be able to improve their reading and reading comprehension. They will be able to explore what the Holocaust was and what the people did to survive. They will be able to learn about their history through the use of this novel.
With your help, you will ensure that my students have an opportunity to be hooked to a classic novel they will take pleasure in and learn about an important event in history.
