My Project

I want my students to have the opportunity to learn through play during literacy centers and math centers. Using board games, puzzles, and engaging learning centers will help them stay engaged while practicing the skills I’ve taught them. First grade students still need to have the opportunity to learn through play even though we don’t have time in our schedule for actual play centers. I believe using “play based” literacy and math centers will help students stay engaged and learn valuable skills they need as they grow. Using board games during math centers is a great way for students to learn how work together, follow rules, and problem solve as well as basic math skills. Not only will I be able to use these materials during math and literacy centers, but this can double as indoor recess activities. I believe it’s important to keep our young kids off of technology as much as possible and get back to the basics where they can play!
