Learning through Play

My students need child appropriate materials to keep them engaged in learning. Children WANT to play, but they HAVE to learn. They can do both with the right materials!

My Students

My students are extremely resilient! We are still in the process of overcoming Harvey. Our classroom is one of the only places where students have consistency right now, it's basically a home. Even without the devastation of Harvey, our school in an Acheive 180 campus and recently transitioned out of the IR (Improvement Required) status. We are also a Fine Arts Magnet school. My campus works hard everyday to provide our students with the best education, despite their zip code. Our children have grit and love coming to school.

My Project

Have you ever need to teach a child how to play? I do, on a daily basis in my Kindergarten classroom. Play time does not come natural to all children-- especially in this day and age where we use a lot of screen time.

I strive to keep my learners engaged through critical-thinking activities.

I need games and materials for my students to use during instructional time and centers--even recess. Our most popular game on the play ground is when the children pretend to "take the bad guy to jail" and rough play is consistency redirected. I believe that my students can learn and build character through appropriate play. This project will mostly provide my students with activities to play outside for recess and free play. It will also provide books, tools for math, materials for centers such as the Hot Dot Readers (with batteries and charger), games for critical thinking time, and supplies I need as a teacher to hand make centers such as lamination. I want better for my student-- let them be kids!! The students in my classroom OUR future.

Additionally, we are in need of basic cleaning products (hand-sanitizer and Lysol) that I have been providing out of pocket lately.
