Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember what it was like after a long day of learning to finally have time to play? My students get center time at the end of each day, where they are able choose what center they would like to play in. We had a great kitchen area, that has been loved by so many children and has seen better days.
This is my 7th year as an educator at my school.
I teach approximately 20 kindergarten students in a general education classroom at a low-income school. My classroom is in desperate need of a new kitchen set, to replace our current one that is falling apart.
My Project
Play permits a child to fit the reality of the world into their own interests and knowledge. Research shows that children who engage in complex forms of play have greater language skills than non-players, better social skills, more empathy, more imagination, and more of the subtle capacity to know what others mean. They are less aggressive and show more self-control and higher levels of thinking. I have requested a new kitchen set in the dramatic play area because the one we have is breaking and is dangerous for them to play with.
My project is so important to me because kindergarten education has become heavily focused on teaching literacy and other academic skills, and play is getting pushed aside.
Your donations will help foster a child's love of playing and sharing ideas with new friends. These materials will be used year after year and touch so many children’s lives. Please help and encourage children to learn through play!
