My Students
My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. They are enthusiastic and full of life. I tell them daily that they are the best class in the whole school and they continue to show me that they are.
I teach PRE-K in a Title 1 school in the small town of Perry, Georgia.
My students work every day to learn the skills they need to be successful for the rest of their school career.
My Project
When my students come to me in August, my classroom is often the first classroom they have ever set foot in. It is my job to set the stage for them and their future career in school.
A huge component of PRE-K is learning through play.
We have a full hour of uninterrupted free play time each day. My students call it "work time" because work is exactly what they are doing. While it may look like play to an outsider, this is the time where the majority of significant learning in my classroom occurs.
We are asking for a ramps & balls exploration set to give us the opportunity to create new things and experiment with motion and movement. We are asking for new blocks to build our creativity and cooperation skills. We are asking for magnets to build our questioning and exploring skills. We are asking for kitchen utensils for our dramatic play area so we can practice reading recipes, measuring, and role playing to figure out the world around us. We are asking more math manipulatives to practice counting, sorting, and creating patterns. We are asking for a set of keys and locks to practice number recognition and build our fine motor skills. We are asking for a draw and write touch board to focus on pre-writing skills in a fun and inviting way.
These materials I am asking for will allow my students to learn through play. It will give me the opportunity to expose them to toys and resources they have never seen before and allow them to learn more effectively in my classroom.
