Help me give my students a kitchen play set and dramatic play costumes to help foster hands-on learning, problem-solving skills, and encourage social interaction as many of them begin their first ever year in school.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Kindergarten is a time of exploring and figuring out how to be in school. At this age our students need more play-based learning. Curriculum is important, but they need social interactions with their peers. Adding dramatic play into our classroom, students can take learning into their own hands and be creative at the same time.
Student-led learning is very important in fostering curiosity, problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and communication skills.
Many of our students will be in a classroom for the first time ever and providing them with an interesting and eye-catching materials is key to encourage them to take that step forward in their journey as leaders and learners. It is important to me that I provide my students with something that they will be interested by or even familiar with because it will ease that transition and open a new door to learning through dramatic play. This kitchen set and costumes will allow our little learners to engage in role-playing and begin growing friendships as well as their language, creativity and storytelling skills. Students will be able to share ideas and learn from each other. My students will be able to use these materials for dramatic play to explore their thoughts and feelings.
