Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students learn in an inclusive environment which includes students with special needs and typically developing students. My students attend an inclusive Preschool Collaborative Class (ETK/PCC). My students come from diverse backgrounds and have different abilities. Some of the students' disabilities that we serve include developmental delay, Autism, language impairment, and multiple disabilities.
My students come from low-income households and receive free school meals.
These students have vast potential and are eager to learn. They learn through observing and interacting with their typically developing peers as well as by providing them with learning opportunities and experiences to gain the skills necessary for success in their upcoming instructional years. I believe in early intervention and providing them with the tools necessary to succeed. By providing students with diverse learning experiences and early intervention that meets their needs, some of my students have been able to exit special education and join their peers in a general ed classroom curriculum when they transition into kindergarten.
My Project
The playhouse will be used during our outdoor learning time. Students will be able to develop social emotional skills by interacting with peers. Students will practice social skills by pretending to cook for friends, taking turns with the water table, and engage in role play.
Dramatic play in the playhouse will facilitate students' language and communication development as well as connections with their peers.
Interactions will be facilitated and guided by the adults in the classroom. Our young students learn best when they are having fun and in their natural environment.
