This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My 4th grade Sanchez Eagles are part community with limited opportunities for them and their family. In addition, our students are economically disadvantaged and more than half our 4th grade community are English Language Learners who are transitioning and are for the first time emerged in a full English classrooms. Furthermore, my students are still feeling the effects of Hurricane Harvey to our community.
Although my students have many obstacles, they are hard workers with a positive attitude.
They come to school eager to learn new things. As the year progresses, they have gained confidence in their abilities in reading and writing. They enjoy their time independently reading and sharing the joy of discovering a new book with their classmates. When is writing time, their faces light up. They love to write about topics that they cherish and are eager for me or others to read their pieces.
All in all, I am confident that with the support from the Sanchez community and with their motivation to succeed and perseverance, my students will be lifetime readers, competent writers, and be prepared to soar as a citizen of the 21st century.
My Project
The headphones will help my students to listen to authentic literature. Our students have access to My On which is a computer program that offers a digital library at their fingertips. Our students enjoy to listen to books of their interest. They also have access to Imagine Learning which is an online program that provides guided reading instruction to their own level. This program also offers audio features that are hard to follow without the proper equipment
Our students enjoy listening to good literature the resources will help them reach their goal of being life long readers.
As they are listening to this authentic pieces they hear correct articulation and tone that will help improve their own annunciation and increase their comprehension.
In addition, our old speaker system just went out due to age and usage. A new speaker system will help my students to be able to listen to authentic literature in the whole group setting.
